St. Nicholas' Church burnt down in 1972. The church tower was saved and now serves coffee and snacks to raise money for the church and various charities. The old graveyard holds the grave of Mildred Gale (George Washington's Grandmother) unfortunately the gravestones were removed before the family connection was realised. Some old gravestones can still be seen at the north-east end of the gardens. The church grounds are now a public park with stunning flower displays.
